The principle of producing sodium hypochlorite by electrode method is diaphragmless electrolysis, sodium hypochlorite is generated by subprime homogeneous chemical reaction. The working principle of anode is generating sodium hypochlorite by electrolysis of sodium chloride (medicine pill) in the pool. The best suitable salt density range is 3-5% in the pool. Electrodes for sodium hypochlorite generator can be categorized into sheet type and tubular types.
Mixed metal oxide anode has long life span while with low over-potential, high current efficiency of chlorine evolution and good energy-saving effect.

Invention and development of anode is a key technology breakthrough in the application of seawater electrolysis. One of the well-known application is to prevent Mussels and algae growing on the ship hull and on the water cooling system for the power plant.

It is variant that electrolyte temperature and salt density in this application. From light salt brine to salt density of 30g/L from the cold water in the North Atlantic ocean to warm water in the Indian Ocean. The anode we supply must be acid pickled to remove the oxide of the titanium substrate, the anode will be subjected to high speed electrolyte flow and reverse condition of electrode. The generating of sodium hypochlorite by seawater electrolysis is to kill marine organism and prevent algae growing on the ship hull and cooling water system for the power plant. For seawater electrolytic cell, the anode is Platinum Group Metals oxide coated while the cathode is plain titanium. In order to adapt to the different circumstances and conditions of electrolyte, we have developed anodes suitable for different working conditions to improve salt working efficiency and prolong anode life span.

Titanium anode for cathodic protection industry


Using plus cathodic polarization to reduce or prevent metal corrosion is called cathodic protection that could be achieved by two methods: impressed current protection and sacrificial anode protection.

Impressed current protection makes the whole surface of the protected metal structure work as cathode, source negative pole will be connected to the metal while source positive pole connected to auxiliary anode to protection a metal equipment. Cathodic polarization occurs when current of auxiliary anode goes through the electrolyte solution and concentrates on the metal cathode, the current goes back to the source and the total potential of the metal will be reduced. If the protective current is big enough, anode of the metal structure becomes insoluble, meanwhile, the cathodic reduction reaction only occurs on the metal surface, the impressed current could achieve full protection. Anode materials develop and become various under a variety of anode working conditions. MMO titanium anode that using titanium as substrate and high catalytic activity of platinum group metal oxide as the coating with good electrical conductivity, small output resistance and good formability without corrosion applied widely in seawater, fresh water and soil environments. The protected metal connecting metal with smaller negative potential to form anode and the protected metal in the electrolyte solution to form a big source, this is called sacrificial anode protection, current flows through anode, electrolyte solution and then goes to the metal equipment to make metal equipment cathodic polarization protection.


Normally, titanium anode in the soil bed works with current density of 100A/m2, life span of 20 years and consumption rate of 0.1mg/A. With 100A/m2 and more than 20 years’ life span in the shallow soil and deep soil environments and without anodic passivity and dissolution, titanium anode is the most ideal auxiliary anode material.

As a kind of electrode material, Platinum coated titanium electrode is widely applied in the fields of electroplating, electrolytic synthesis, fuel cell and wastewater electrochemical processing, etc. Platinum coated anode can be used as anode and cathode with excellent chemical resistance, high catalytic activity, high oxygen evolution potential and low hydrogen evolution potential. Platinum coating has excellent chemical resistance to hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid and most of the electrolyte solution except a few of mixed acids. Working as anode, pure platinum anode can be used for some very important electrochemical industries such as hydrogen peroxide, ammonium persulfate and water electrolysis. The shortage of platinum resource and high cost constrain Platinum anode applied in electrochemical industries in large-scale for large quantity need for Platinum anode. Considering the electrode cost and resource conservation, Platinum coated titanium anode is a very good substitute for pure platinum anode. Currently the mainstream is damminedinitrito platinum electro-plating treatment on the titanium substrate, however this treatment has unavoidable disadvantages, high cost as waste of Platinum coating during electro-plating process and poor cohesion of platinum coating and titanium substrate.


We have developed a coating technology of reasonable cost, simple manufacturing technology, excellent coating cohesion, high conductivity with sintering treatment and longer prolonged accelerated life span. According to water electrolysis experiments, Platinum coated anode could get alkaline ionized water at PH value 9.5 or acidic ionized water at PH value 3-4 with ORP over 250mv.

1.The low density, high specific strength: titanium metal density is 4.51g/cm3, higher than that of aluminum, copper, nickel and less than steel, but in the first metal strength.


2.The corrosion resistance of the: titanium is a kind of very active metal, its equilibrium potential is very low, the corrosion tendency of thermodynamics in the medium high. But in fact the titanium very stable in many media, such as titanium in oxidation resistance, neutral and weak reducing medium is resistant to corrosion.

3.The heat resistant performance is good: the new titanium alloy can be used for a long time at a temperature of 600 DEG C or higher temperature.

4.The good low temperature resistance: TA7 titanium alloy (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) cryogenic titanium alloy and Ti-2.5Zr-1.5Mo as the representative, its strength increased with the decrease of temperature, but the plastic has hardly changed. Keep good ductility and toughness in the -196-253 degrees Celsius temperature, avoid metal cold brittleness, is the ideal material for cryogenic vessel, tank and other equipment.


5.The anti damping performances: titanium is affected by mechanical vibration, electric vibration, compared with steel, copper metal, its vibration attenuation for the longest time.


6.The non magnetic, non-toxic: titanium is non-magnetic metal, in a large magnetic field will not be magnetized, non-toxic and human tissue and blood compatibility good, so is the medical community by.

7.The tensile strength and yield strength near: this property of titanium shows its ratio of yield strength (tensile strength / yield strength) high, said metal titanium material in forming poor plastic deformation. The ratio of titanium yield limit and elastic modulus, the springback of titanium forming large.


8.The heat transfer performance is good: the coefficient of thermal conductivity of metallic titanium although than carbon steel and copper is low, but because of the corrosion resistance of titanium excellent, so thin wall thickness can be greatly reduced, and the surface and the steam heat transfer mode for dropwise condensation, reducing the heat group, too surface scaling can also reduce the thermal resistance. The heat transfer performance of titanium was significantly improved.

9.The low elastic modulus: elastic modulus titanium at room temperature for 106.4GMPa, 57% for steel.

10.The inspiratory resistance: titanium is a kind of chemical properties are very active metals, react with many elements and compounds at high temperature. Titanium gettering mainly refers to the high temperature and carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen reaction.

Titanium anode for organic wastewater treatment


With rapid industry development, emissions of organic wastewater increasing, especially high density wastewater which severely pollutes water in the nature as it has high chromahigh toxicity and massive biological refractory compounds  in the industries of chemistry, food industry, pesticide and pharmaceuticals industry. New technology of electrolysis method has advantages of no necessity of chemical agent, small-sized equipment, less occupied area and no secondary pollution, this technology has been widely applied for organic wastewater contains hydrocarbons, alcohol, aldehyde, ether, phenol. Oxidizing reaction on the anode surface removes COD and directly decreases the organics on the anode surface, It is noteworthy that anode potential must be higher than organic decomposition potential, organic oxidizing reaction and oxygen evolution are two competing reactions undertake simultaneously.

We have designed and developed a kind of Iridium-Tantalum oxide coated anode with activated layers that made up of Stannum and Antimony oxide which prevent the electrolyte  penetrating into the titanium substrate surface and prevent oxygen atoms or bivalent oxygen atoms spreading to the titanium substrate, thus generating of titanium dioxide is prevented and oxygen evolution overvoltage of the Iridium-Tantalum coating is highly increased. The Iridium-Tantalum coated anode has unique advantages which prevent organics oxidated to carbon dioxide and water on the anode surface in the organic wastewater treatment.  For copper recovery from the micro etching liquid, the Iridium-Tantalum oxide coating prevent sthe original ecological oxygen atoms entering inside coating and thus destroying coating cohesion and prolongs the anodes life span. Now we have applied patents for utility models for this kind of coating.
